Electricians in the Forth Valley area have just over 100 days to supercharge their CVs with the new wiring regulations qualification.
The 18th Edition – otherwise known as BS 7671:2018 – outlines the new standards which need to be applied to all new and amended electrical installations in the UK.
On standby to help industry professionals achieve the standard is the Forth Valley College electrical safety team.
As of January 1, 2019, all new and amended installations must comply with the requirements covered in the 18th Edition wiring regulations and the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), is urging all electrical professionals to ensure they are familiar with the new standards as soon as possible.
FVC’s electrical safety training centre based at the Falkirk Campus, has already begun training large numbers of electricians to get them up to speed with the new regulations and achieve the required qualification.
Courses are available in both a three-day and one-day format with exams conducted after the final day’s training. Courses are run both during the day and in the evening.
Available course dates can be found at https:// www.forthvalley.ac.uk/ courses/electrical-safety.
Personnel working on the design, installation, inspection and testing of wiring systems need to be prepared for the changes in order to remain compliant as some of these changes will affect most electrical installation work.
Alistair McKean, FVC’s lead commercial trainer, said:“The change is a significant one – and preparing for it here at FVC, under the guidance of our professional and experienced delivery team, is a great way to make the transition as smooth as possible.”
