Back-to-back wins as momentum starts to build

Stirling Albion .............. 1 Queen’s Park ................ 0 Stirling ended their near seven– month wait for a home win with a deserved victory over Queen’s Park on Saturday.

Skipper Ross McGeachie was the unlikely goal hero, heading Jordan Allan’s corner past Jordan Hart after just 12 minutes, as Dave Mackay’s men earned their first Forthbank success since defeating Clyde 2–1 on February 24.

Ten games had come and gone since then but Albion finally got it right and will hope to keep the momentum going when they host Annan Athletic this weekend.

Stirling had gone into the internatio­nal break on the back of an impressive 3–0 dismantlin­g of Elgin at Borough Briggs the score line wasn’t as emphatic on their return to action but it was another bright performanc­e, particular­ly in the first half.

Queen’s Park came to life after the break but rarely looked like equalising as the Binos dug in to secure back–to–back shut-outs for the first time since March 2017.

Having lost their first four games of the season in Ladbrokes League 2, it was vital Stirling followed up their win at Elgin with another three points against a Queen’s Park side who arrived in the city having knocked Welsh champions The New Saints out of the IRN–BRU Cup.

Gus MacPherson’s men had only lost once in League 2 and had held Ayr and St Mirren to draws in cup ties but they lacked a spark on their first visit here since a 0-0 draw in January 2016.

Albion were without Darren Smith and Lee Hamilton through injury and Kyle
