GP plans event to help Malawi

- Staff reporter

A Stirling GP is hoping to feed more than 1000 children in an African school.

Caroline Steele, a doctor at Allan Park Medical Practice, has spent the last year raising funds for the Mary’s Meals charity along with her husband Ben and a group of friends from the village of Menstrie.

They are hoping to net enough money to feed a school of 1141 pupils at Lupaso Primary School in Malawi, a country the couple visited a decade ago but which had a lasting impact on them.

Caroline said:“So far we have had several fundraising events including 40th birthday donations, family Dumyat walk, a half marathon sponsorship and gala stalls.

“We had the two primary schools Menstrie and Alva participating in the Backpack Project and hosted a charity golf day at Tillicoultry Golf Course recently.”

Their main fundraising event, however, is their Christmas ball in The Parsonage at Dunmore Park, Airth.

“We are hoping people might consider booking a table or two for their Christmas night out,”said Caroline.“Each table sold will feed 20 children for a year.

“The evening includes arrival drinks, a three-course dinner including a half bottle of wine plus party games, an auction and music from a live band and DJ. All the proceeds will go to Mary’s Meals.”
