Caring pupil helped driver who took ill while on duty

-

A Stirling teenager came to the aid of a bus driver who took ill while on duty.

Fifth year Wallace High School pupil Jessica Campbell had been travelling on the First 54 service at the end of August when bus driver Martin Kustec took ill.

The 15-year-old was this week thanked by First Scotland East bus staff for her concern for their colleague.

Jessica (pictured with Martin) said:“I just felt like it was the right thing to do, it was instinct.

“God forbid things might have taken a turn for the worse if he was to be left on his own, so I made sure to stay with him until medical assistance and help arrived. I am just delighted to see him back to full health.”

Martin (62) had followed protocol and radioed for assistance at a nearby bus stop after feeling unwell at the wheel.

Passengers were transferred on to the next

bus whilst Martin waited for medical attention and support colleagues to arrive.

Martin was later medically cleared as fit and able to drive.

Jessica was this week presented with a bouquet of flowers and a £25 gift voucher as a thank you from Bannockburn First Scotland East depot staff

Bannockburn depot operations manager Jim Burns, said this week:“It is truly touching that a young pupil would take time out of her day to ensure our employee wasn’t on his own and I cannot thank Jessica enough for her selfless act.

“It really does restore your faith in humanity when you hear of things like this happening and so we wanted to show our appreciation for her efforts.”
