Piping hot McLaren High School Pipe Band has been busy since the new term started. On September 10 they were invited to play for a delegation of more than 40 Taiwanese delegates at Callander Youth Project.

The band played for more than half an hour, including solos from James Douglas, Catriona Norman and Eion Brennen to the delight of the delegates who really enjoyed the Scottish entertainment.

Then on Saturday, September 15 the band, along with pupils from the Balfron High School Pipe Band, were invited to join the Scottish Fiddle Orchestra at the Royal Concert Hall in Glasgow, where they played a number of tunes along with the SFO in front of an audience in excess of 1000 people. The pupils were a credit to themselves and the school who were very proud of their brilliant performances.

Congratulations to Catriona Norman who had her debut as the official SFO Piper on the evening and opened the concert and the second half playing solo! The band were also tasked with taking part in a ’buskathon’ around the McLaren area over two weekends to raise much needed funds.

Well done to Eion and Catriona who travelled to Loch Katrine, Andrew and Jamie who busked at Kilmahog and Cameron who travelled to Stirling - all raising funds for the band.

If anyone would be interested in sponsoring the pipe band please contact Ms Webster at the school. Sport The netball season started this week with both the S2 and S3 teams in action in the first round of the Netball Scotland Schools Cup. The S2 team won 25-6 against The High School of Glasgow and the S3 team were unfortunately defeated 24-14 by a strong Notre Dame High School. There are five teams entered in the Schools Cup this season, so lots more matches to come! A massive thank you once again to new kit sponsors: art4you Scotland and Genius People.
