Gains for youngsters

-

Wallace High School has launched a new basketball initiative.

Fifteen primary seven pupils from its feeder schools showed their skills at the first official meeting of their P7 Basketball Academy.

The academy will act as a taster to the more senior School of Basketball, which pupils can join when they move up to the high school next year.

Feeding into the Year of Young People, the academy will be run by a group of S4 Basketball Leaders, who have been part of the School of Basketball programme since S1 and who are now studying an SQA Module in Basketball Leadership.

“The academy offers pupils the opportunity to develop their basketball skills and enjoy the game in a fun environment,”said Rachael Whillans, PE teacher at Wallace High.

“The most exciting part of the academy is that it is run in the most part by pupils. Our S4s have thrived on this opportunity to organise and lead sessions. This is testament to their own commitment to basketball atWallace.”

Michael McPake, Active Stirling Active School’s Co-ordinator, added: “Active Schools are delighted to work with Wallace High School for the Basketball Academy, and support the transition of the current P7s into the Wallace High Basketball programme.”

The academy runs on a Wednesday at Wallace High from 4.30-5.30pm. It is open to P7 pupils across Bridge of Allan, Cornton, Fallin, Raploch and Riverside Primary Schools.
