Residents hit out at noise from nightclub

Officers‘respond to all complaints’

- Alastair McNeill

Residents at a new £6million showpiece Stirling block of flats say they are losing sleep because of the noise from a city centre night club.

The block which sits between Goosecroft Road and Maxwell Place, built between 2015 and 2016, contains affordable housing above street level shop lets.

A resident in the block, who contacted the Stirling Observer last week, said: “People cannot sleep in the bedrooms at the back of the flats because the noise and vibration. They’re having to sleep in their living rooms at the front. “However, you can still hear and feel the noise there. Ear plugs are useless.

“It has been going on for far too long.

“Officers have been called out to carry out noise readings. However, the readings have not been high enough for them to do anything about it.

“In my experience the noise from the Fubar is not as loud when the officers come out to take their readings.

“It seems to me when the officers have gone the music becomes louder.

“The noise during Stirling University freshers’ week back in September went into the early hours and beyond.

“We’ve also had problems with shouting from clubbers in the streets outside the flats going on to 6am. It’s an issue that really needs to be addressed.”

A Stirling Council spokesperson said: “Our public health team have been investigating noise complaints about the Fubar nightclub from residents of the new flats on Goosecroft Road.

“Officers have responded to all complaints received and have attended on ten occasions to date to assess noise levels being experienced by residents.

“The service is continuing to work with the all parties concerned to tackle the issue.”

Police Scotland Stirling area commander, chief inspector Gill Boulton said: “Police Scotland work with local authority colleagues and licensed premises to ensure that people leaving premises and making their way home after nights out do so in an orderly and considerate fashion.

“If there are specific incidents of anti-social behaviour relating to disturbance then officers will take necessary and proportionate action to deal with this.”
