Sturgeon to headline event for Book Week
First Minister Nicola Sturgeon is to headline Book Week Scotland with an exclusive event at Stirling Castle.
Ms Sturgeon and author Maggie O’Farrell will be in conversation on November 22, at 7.30pm.
The event has been organisedby Scottish Book Trust in partnership with Historic Environment Scotland.
The First Minister and Maggie O’Farrell will discuss what being a feminist means to them, and how their reading lives have contributed to their wider identities.
In 2016, the First Minister’s Reading Challenge was launched to encourage reading within schools.
Maggie O’Farrell is the author of seven novels and winner of the 2010 Costa Novel Award for The Hand That First Held Mine.
Her recent work I Am, I Am, I Am, is a memoir of the near death experiences that have defined her life. After the event, she will be signing copies of her memoir.
There will also be representatives from ROAR (Represent, Object, Advocate, Rewrite) present at the event, seeking consultation on their current research into the inequalities in Scottish writing and publishing.
A hundred free tickets and a travel bursary will be offered to young women aged 16–25, through various partner networks.
Priced from £8.10, tickets are limited and are available from Stirling Castle’s website.
The event will also be live–streamed as part of Book Week Scotland’s Digital Festival, and can be watched on Facebook.
Book Week Scotland runs from November 19 to 25 .
A series of free events are taking place across Stirling to mark Book Week Scotland.
At Bridge of Allan Library from 11am until noon on November 20, Helene Witcher will take part in a panel event and author reading of Madame Scotia, Madam Scrap, the biography of the musician Héloïse Russell-Fergusson, a champion of the songs of the Hebrides.
Later that day, novelist Neil Broadfoot will also appear at Bridge of Allan Library from 7pm until 8pm to talk about his new novel No Man’s Land.
Author Lisa Ballantyne is scheduled to appear at St Ninians Library at the Mayfield Centre between 2pm and 3.30pm on November 21.
