Buttercup cafe is open

-

A new community venture, helping people and their carers with socialising and activities and targeting the memory and wellbeing of members opened its doors in Bannockburn last week.

The Buttercup Cafe in Allan Church Community Hall was officially opened by Dr Peter Murdoch, retired consultant in Geriatric Medicine in NHS Forth Valley from 1983-2015.

Dr Murdoch chaired the steering group which established the Dementia Services Development Trust and this ultimately led to the establishment of the Iris Murdoch Centre at Stirling University.

He said:“We are all indebted to Olive Brown and Margaret Baxter and the session of the Allan Church but in particular the wider community and friends for their commitment and enthusiasm in bringing this dream to reality in Bannockburn.”

A spokesperson added: “Many people of the community attended this event to support us Stirling Council was represented by Baillie Alasdair Tollemache and local councillor for Bannockburn, Maureen Bennison and David Budd, newly appointed Integration and Inclusion Coordinator for the Our Connected Neighbourhoods Project.

“Volunteers from Bannockburn House and the community council members also attended.

“We would like to thank everyone who turned up on the day but also those who supported our efforts but could not be present in particular Mr John Dreczkowski, recently deceased, but a huge influence in community spirit.”

She added:“Thanks to all who donated to our cause whether in person, thought but also financially. Your support matters to help us in our aim to achieve bigger and better support for all in our community.”

The cafe is open every Monday from 1.45-2.30pm.
