Neil’s talk is a stone’s throw from Stirling home

- Albert Halls

Stirling archaeologist, historian, TV presenter and author, Neil Oliver, is to appear at the Albert Halls next month as part of his first ever UK theatre tour.

The star of BBC series Coast will take to the stage as he shares his love of Great Britain. The tour, The Story of the British Isles in 100 Places, which is also the title of his new book, started earlier this month, and he will head to his home city on Saturday, November 17. Included in the book are iconic Stirling landmarks, including Stirling Castle and Cambuskenneth Abbey.

Neil who was appointed as President of the National Trust in Scotland in 2017 is also known for his television series A History of Scotland and Vikings.

Whilst filming Coast Neil says he ‘fell in love all over again’ with the British Isles.

The tour is a first for Neil, who lives just a stone’s throw from the Albert Halls. Speaking to The Ticket from his hotel in Cheltenham last week, he said: “It’s all very intimidating standing in front of about 500 people at a time. It’s very nerve–racking. In fact, the more people that are there the easier it becomes.

“The tour has been pretty full on so far but the audiences have been fantastic.

“Over the last number of years I realised that the TV project had taken me on my own tour of Britain and that’s what inspired the book.”

The telly star has called Stirling “home” for more than a decade and he admits he is already eyeing his performance at the venue in among 38 other dates. “It was my wife’s idea,”he added. “Close by is the Albert Halls and quite often it hosts speakers.

“My wife Trudi came in one day with a flyer, I think it was for Ray Mears, and she said to me ‘you should do something like that’, so I did.

“I suppose it will be a bit like singing in front of your aunties

“It will be good to be able to go home after a show.”

The Story of the British Isles in 100 Places will give audiences the opportunity to share Neil’s enthusiasm and unique perspective of British history.

In his amusing and entertaining way he will explain what it all means to him and why we need to cherish and celebrate our wonderful countries.
