Double headline tour stops at the Tolbooth

- Staff reporter

Swedish all-girl group Baskery will be at the Tolbooth on Friday November 16.

They will be in Stirling with Adam Holmes and the Embers as part of a double headline tour.

Described as an alternative Americana folk rock band, they are famed for their brillant live shows as well as their exceptionally crafted songs.

The band comprises three sisters – Greta, Stella and Sunniva Bondesson.

Last year was a busy one for the group with performances at US festivals Bonnaroo, Newport Folk Festival and Arroyo Seco, playing alongside artists like Dr John, The Avett Brothers, Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Alabama Shakes.

Adam Holmes is one of the brightest rising stars of the UK roots music scene, with influences from either side of the Atlantic mixing traditional and contemporary folk with his own brand of soul and Americana.

Twenty-seven-year-old Adam has been twice nominated for BBC Radio2 Folk Awards and his first three albums have also been nominated for Scottish Album of the Year.

He very briefly worked on a building site to finance his first serious guitar purchase, but singing, writing songs and performing is all he wanted to do.

The latest album Midnight Milk was recorded in one room in his Edinburgh flat which was influenced by collaborations with Dom Aitchison from Mogwai, Adrian Utley of Portishead and Martin Green of Lau.

With his band The Embers he combines the songwriting influences of artists such as John Martyn, James Taylor, Townes Van Zandt with the blues, country and folk music textures of The Band, Neil Young and Ryan Adams and The Cardinals.

Tickets £15/£13.
