Bridge of Allan The final 2018 summer season weekly competitio­n was played on Saturday with gents competing in an Autumn Bogey competitio­n.

Winner was Martin Baird who managed to beat the course by six holes with Ian Houston second on four-up. Third place went to Phil Wallom who was two-up.

In Friday’s winter senior nine hole stableford, Stuart Kerr won the spoils with his 20 points total with Phil Wallom and Hugh Dent second and third respective­ly both scoring 19 points.

On Saturday the club will be holding the Gents Winter Open which now has a full entry. Tee times can be seen on the club website and are also posted on the noticeboar­d. Stirling Ninety-six players competed in the Five-Club Challenge on Saturday in a non-qualifying event and 16 players matched the par of 72 or better with Ben Liddell returning the best scratch score with a one over par 73 with birdies at 2, 13, 14 and 18.

Playing partners Drew Fowler and Campbell Robertson took first and second place respective­ly. Both players coincident­ally chose the same five clubs; driver, rescue, six-iron, pitching wedge and putter.

Drew returned his best score of the season with a four over par 76 and might now consider ditching the other nine clubs from the bag. After an outward 39, he was home in 37 with an excellent birdie at the difficult Cotton’s Fancy and played the last six holes in a tremendous one under par.

Campbell was also out in 39 and played the last six holes in one over par for an inward 40.

Six players - Gordon Samson, Richard D Park, Ben Reynolds Colin Hird, Douglas Todd and Thomas Stewart all returned good scores of net 70 with positions placed on the better inward half. Ten twos were returned from the field, the best from Martin Masterson at the par four 11th hole.

Saturday sees the re-scheduled Grouse Fourball and closing day of the season. Players can still enter online or via the new V1 app.

Some tickets are still available for the annual dinner and presentati­on of prizes on Friday, November 16. Guest speaker is Bert Thomson. Tickets at £20 via the Secretary’s office. Dress code is lounge suit or tailored jacket, collar and tie.

Winner of the First Class on 41 points was Ken Wilkie (5). He had 14 pars, birdies at 4 and 5 and bogeys at 12 and 16. Runner up was Hugh MacLennan (11) on 40 points with third place going to Allan Cowie (4) on 39 points. Peter Bell (8) was fourth on 38 points.

Bob Wales (12) won the Second Class on 41 points. Russell Clarke (16) was second on 39 points and bih than Jim Gardner (16). Three players then returned 37 points but fourth spot went to Andy Wilson (15) with bih than Hunter McKay (13) and Jim McVeagh (13).

In the Third Class four players returned 37 points but the winner was David Easton (30) with a better last three, despite an ugly 10 at the last hole, than Harry Barton Snr (24) who had bih than Hal Mills (17) who had better last six than Alistair Pringle (27).

The Winter Ringer stars on Saturday with the basic round and the annual prizegivin­g is on Saturday at 8pm with the opportunit­y for all members to recognise the success of others throughout the season.
