Hard-hitting play warns pupilsoveralcoholabuse
A hard-hitting show on the risks associated with underage drinking took place last week at a Stirling secondary school.
S1 Wallace High School pupils and staff were joined by Clackmannanshire and Dunblane MSP Keith Brown to watch ‘Smashed’ – a play about a group of friends who find themselves in touble because of alcohol misuse.
It was followed by an interactive workshop where pupils were invited to ask the cast questions on issues raised during the play and explore the consequences portrayed by the actors.
Speaking after the performance, Mr Brown said: “It was great to see the Smashed production at Wallace High School and from what I saw, it was very effective in engaging with the young people in the audience about the risks and potential consequences of underage drinking.
“It’s great to see Diageo help to tackle this important issue head on and in a way that many young people can relate to and understand.”
Sponsored by drinks giant Diageo, ‘Smashed’ was developed in consultation with young people.
This year sees the tour appear in 48 secondary schools across Scotland.
To date, the programme has reached over 333,000 pupils in 1400 schools across the UK.
‘Smashed’ will visit a further four schools in central Scotland including Stirling’s St Modan’s.
