Public speaking group celebrate 1st birthday

-

Stirling Speakers held their first anniversary meeting recently.

The not-for-profit community group meets regularly at the Mayfield Centre, St Ninians to help people find their voice.

Membership comes with access to online training courses to help with putting speeches together and connect with audiences.

The theory is put into practice at club meetings where everyone is given a chance to speak. Positive evaluations and feedback are key to the process and over time, everyone increases their skills, knowledge and confidence.

“I can’t believe it has been a year since we first opened our doors to help people who need help with their communication skills,”said founding member Nick Mockler.“The number one fear of most people is speaking in public. It is not just standing in front of an audience that terrifies them, many people get tongue tied in meetings and consequently their opinions are never heard.”

He added:“Of course, our members are not only there to develop their skills. Many of them just like talking and enjoy getting out and about.

“Others are professional speakers who see the value of continued practice and feedback.

“The best way to find out if we can help you is to come along to a few meetings for free, with no obligation to join. We meet on the second and fourth Mondays of the month at the Mayfield Centre at 7pm.”
