‘Boost’ for bike lockers

Local transport

- Alastair McNeill

The need for more secure cycle locker provision in the Stirling area was discussed at a recent Council meeting.

Officers at last week’s environment and housing committee said they would assess locker provision as part of the Local Transport Strategy.

It followed a question from Dunblane and Bridge of Allan councillor Alastair Majury who had received a number of enquiries from constituents.

The current 43-cycle secure locker network in the district has been in place since 2006.

There is currently a waiting list to use the lockers – rented out at a cost of £25 per annum –at Stirling, Dunblane and Bridge of Allan railway stations.

Other locations include Dunblane Tesco car park and Sprinkerse Park and Ride and Stirling bus station.

An officer told councillor Majury at the meeting: “We have been approached by a number of community groups to see how we can incorporate that, particularly at travel hubs and around Park and Ride facilities, the station etc. There’s a growing demand and need for cycle lockers and it is something we are looking at...if there are funds available.”

Current lockers are at: Stirling railway station (20); Stirling bus station (4); Bridge of Allan station (6); Dunblane railway station (3); Dunblane Tesco car park (6); Park and Ride Springkerse (4). A council spokesperson said: “Officers acknowledged they would assess locker provision, and the discussion around this has to be taken in the context of the wider Local Transport Strategy.”
