Lights of Love service for lost babies

- Kaiya Marjoribanks

Sands (stillbirth and neonatal death charity) is organising a remembrance service in Stirling for bereaved parents and their families to remember their babies who have died.

‘Lights of Love’is a nondenominational, family friendly evening of traditional carols, inspirational readings and musical performances.

The Central Scotland service will take place at St Mary’s Church, Upper Bridge Street, Stirling FK8 1ES on Friday , December 7 at 7.30pm.

Bereaved parents will have the opportunity to light a candle and hang a special message on the‘Lights of Love’tree, in memory of their child. The service is free to attend and no ticket or advance booking is required. It is open to all religious beliefs and is a family event where children are welcomed.

Sands spokesperson Caroline Wright said:“This year there is an optional extra element to the service. Parents are invited to bring along a gift/toy for the age their child would be this Christmas. Wrap it up, label it boy or girl and age and place it at the tree. All gifts received will be donated to local charities.

“Sadly, thousands of babies die each year in the UK. Fifteen babies die before, during or shortly after birth every day, shattering the lives of expectant parents, their families and friends, and the people who cared for them.”
