Teams to the fore at challenge event

-

Team events are an integral part of international taekwon-do competitions and Scotland have a formidable reputation in the World and European circuit.

At the moment, there is little opportunity for coloured belts to experience being part of a taekwondo-do team in a competition environment so the Stirling-based LCD taekwondo team of Liz McKenna, Chris McKenna, Julie Scott and David Rankin organised a special challenge event in order provide students the opportunity to gain team experience.

The event took place at the Dunblane Centre and had more than 50 attendees and local company Norbord generously sponsored a significant part of the cost which allowed medals to be awarded.

Fourteen teams took part in three events - sparring, power breaking and special jumping technique and Liz said afterwards: “It was an absolutely fantastic experience for all involved and we can’t thank Norbord enough for making the event possible.

“We are delighted with the how the event went and are hoping to repeat it next year.”

Meanwhile, LCD Taekwon-do Stirling would like to congratulate the following students for their participation at the ITF Open British Championships recently - at which more than 800 competitors took part: Alisha Jane Harvey Price (red belt) - participation (after an unfortunate equipment disqualification); Andrew Waddell (green belt) - gold in sparring; James Miller (adult blue belt) silver in sparring; Alasdair Martin (junior blackbelt) - silver in sparring, bronze in patterns.
