Opposition councillors say recently published figures show attendance at Stirling’s high schools is on the slide.

The average attendance rate over all Stirling’s high schools has dropped in each of the past four years - from 92.8 per cent in 2014/15 to 92.1 per cent in 2017/18.

Only one school - Dunblane High - has a higher figure now than in 2014/15, going from 95.4 per cent to 95.7 per cent, maintaining its position as the secondary school with the highest attendance.

Bannockburn High School has the lowest rate of all the schools at 89.6 per cent, and is the only school to perform below 90 per cent, having done so in each of the last four years.

In the rural areas Balfron High School has gone from 94.4 per cent four years ago to 92.8 per cent in the last full financial year.

McLaren High in Callander meanwhile is now sitting at 92.4 per cent - down from 94.5.

The figures were released at last Thursday’s full meeting of Stirling Council following a written question lodged by Tory Forth and Endrick ward councillor Alistair Berrill.

He said: “Now that the figures are available parents can see the situation for themselves and the steady decline that is now apparent.
