Glass attack in pub left two injured

Sheriff warns of jail term

-

A thug used a glass to attack a man and woman in a Bannockburn pub.

Connor Stewart, of Park Drive, hit Jamie Henderson and Chelsea Hamilton with a glass at the Tartan Arms in Main Street on April 8.

The 21-year-old hit Mr Henderson on the head and Ms Hamilton on the face, injuring both of them.

Stewart admitted assaulting Mr Henderson and recklessly striking Ms Hamilton.

His not guilty pleas to charges of behaving in a threatening and abusive manner at the Tartan Arms and having a metal pole in Bannockburn Main Street were accepted by the Crown.

The threatening behaviour charge had alleged that Stewart engaged in a fight with Jamie Henderson and challenged others to a fight.

At Stirling Sheriff Court on Wednesday Stewart’s lawyer Greg Cunningham told Sheriff James MacDonald that a social work report had suggested a community-based disposal for the offences.

He pointed out that Stewart is already on a community payback order and is accused of breaking its terms. He denies that and there will be a court hearing on January 7.

Sheriff MacDonald said 106 hours of the 150-hour order had been completed, which limited the maximum amount of hours he could impose for these offences.

He told Stewart: “I’m sure you don’t need me to tell you that you are in some difficulty retaining your liberty in respect of these two particular offences.”

He deferred sentence to await the outcome of the January 7 breach proceedings, telling Stewart that he should be under no illusion that prison was at the forefront of his mind “for these two unpleasant offences”.

Sentence was deferred until January 9 and bail was continued meantime.
