Ronnie’s ready to tread the boards

- Alastair McNeill

A Stirling actor has been selected for next year’s Scottish Youth Theatre’s National Ensemble.

Former Stirling High pupil Ronnie Brodie (23) auditioned for the role along with 110 other candidates.

He was among 20 successful applicants for the SYT National Ensemble, whom he met for the first time last weekend. Ronnie, who has also landed his first TV role in the upcoming season of Scot Squad, said: “I’m ecstatic at getting the chance to learn the art of acting on stage and for a live audience as it’s something I’ve always wanted to do.

“The prospect of bringing a story and its characters to life alongside others who are just as passionate really excites me and I can’t wait to dive into that creative process. Also being able to visit several different cities across the country with other members of the ensemble will be a great adventure and bring me great joy.”

After school Ronnie went on to Forth Valley College and the University of Stirling where he studied film and media.

He did his first bit of acting at university appearing in several short films by director Kris J Cummins and Sketches by Graveday Productions. He is currently making videos for BBC The Social.

Launched in 2017, the Scottish Youth Theatre National Ensemble is a company made up of young people aged 16 to 25 who have displayed great theatre potential.

It lasts for a year and participants collaborate with professional theatre practitioners to develop their skills.

They will also work intensively for five weeks to devise a new piece of work which they will tour across Scotland in July.

SYT’s Creative Producer Mahri Reilly said: “Selecting the 2019 company was an inspirational but challenging process; there were so many promising candidates that it was really difficult to whittle it down to 20.

“Ronnie showed an enormous amount of potential and we can’t wait to see how he develops as an artist and contributes to the 2019 company.”
