DOUNE CASTLE .................................... 2 KILSYTH AMATEURS ........................... 2

A late disallowed effort denied Doune a win, although neither side will be disappointed with a share of the points after an absorbing contest.

Doune missed a couple of good early opportunities before Kilsyth ended the deadlock after 28 minutes.

They broke clear before their centre tucked the ball low into the net from 16 yards to make it 1-0.

Doune should have equalised after 43 minutes. Andy Mann struck the ball on the run but miscued his shot high over the bar from 14 yards.

The home side started the second half in more determined mood and the equaliser came after 49 minutes.

Niall McClure was clearly impeded as he tried to head for goal and Alan Inglis converted the spot kick.

Doune made it 2-1 after 61 minutes with a superb finish from Andy Innes.

McClure curled the ball behind the Kilsyth defensive line and Innes slid in at the back post to slam the ball home with a clinical first-time finish into the far corner. Kilsyth equalised after 68 minutes. The ball ricocheted between several players before breaking off a Kilsyth player’s hand to send their striker clear.

With Doune claiming the hand ball, he rifled low past Adam Smulski for 2-2.

Doune thought they had regained the lead after 76 minutes when Inglis nodded into the corner of the net, taking full advantage of the keeper’s restricted movement due to an earlier injury.

To Doune’s dismay, the referee decided Inglis had impeded the keeper and disallowed the goal.

The keeper then denied Robert Purves with a fine instinctive save to keep the sides level, while Smulski made a good save in the dying moments, pushing a shot from 20 yards into the air before smothering the loose ball.

The final whistle saw the sides share the spoils, relatively content to have taken something from a game that saw both sides enjoy spells of dominance.
