Central success in East

Central AC runners were in the medals in six of the 10 races at the East of Scotland Cross Country Championsh­ips at Aberdeen.

Golds in the senior races went to Jamie Crowe and Morag Millar.

These races also formed the main basis for selection to represent the East of Scotland in inter-district matches.

Masters runner Scott Brember and Under 13 Connor Bell were the other gold medallists, while medals went to Under 20 runner Hamish Hickey (bronze) and Under 17 Ben McMillan (silver). Team gongs were collected by the senior men (gold), Under 20 men (silver), Under 13 and Under 17 women, and Under 13 and Under 15 boys (all bronze).

The senior men’s race saw Crowe in the leading pack throughout and as runners including Commonweal­th bronze medallist Robbie Simpson dropped back Jamie won in 27min 19secs over the 8.5k course.

Alastair Hay shrugged off injury worries to finish seventh while Dale Colley and Conan McCaughey laid the foundation for team victory.

Morag Millar put in a dominant performanc­e in the women’s race over the same distance as the men, with her 30.57 timing almost two minutes in front of her next opponent. The team finished fourth with fine runs by Amy Hendry, Julia McAfee and Hazel Dean.

The Under 20 men’s race over 6.5k saw Hamish Hickey bring home an individual bronze medal with a 21.21 timing and with more good runs from Sandy Holl, Tom Graham-Marr and Telfer Gray the team silver medals were assured.

In the Under 20 Women’s race Central’s sole runner Lauren McCullough put in a spirited run.

Ben McMillan was in fine form in the Under 17 men’s race, winning an individual silver medal with an 18.11 run over a 5.5k course.

The three Central Under 17 women on the same course were rewarded for some fine running with bronze team medals through Carrie Banks, Rosie Eckersley and Kyra Gibb.

The Under 15 boys tackled a 4k course with Cameron MacMillan, Cameron Kerr and Euan Docherty taking bronze team medals.

More medals came in the Under 13 boys race over 3.2k. Connor Bell took the individual gold and team bronze along with Ruairidh Burns and Aaron Middleton.

The final set of bronze team medals went to the Under 13 girls team of Melissa Turnbull, Carys Gibb, Mirren Henry and Brogan McMillan.
