Change to Killin Hogmanay

-

Killin is gearing up for a three-day New Year celebration.

The programme to welcome 2019 begins with a performance by Scottish folk band Skippinish in the McLaren Hall at 7pm on December 30.

On Hogmanay the annual fireworks spectacular, usually held at the Falls of Dochart, has moved to a fresh location at Breadalbane Park after being taken over by new organisers.

Villager Charlie Grant, who had helped run the Hogmanay celebration for the last 18 years, has handed over the reins to a group of volunteers.

The 12 volunteers staged a series of fundraisers throughout the year, including a sponsored cycle from Killin to Callander and back.

Mike Beresford from the organising committee explained the decision to move the firework display.

He said:“We decided that we would hold them this year at Breadalbane Park because it’s easily accessible to everyone and there’s plenty of parking.

“We will see how it all goes this year and if people don’t like it then we will certainly look into taking them back to the falls in future.”

The park will be open on Hogmanay from 10.30pm and a 10-minute display will ring in the new year.

On New Year’s Day a traditional ceilidh will be held in the McLaren Hall from 8.30pm.
