Bouncer’s jaw broken by thug

Logan thereafter made to leave the scene, but got no further than the pavement edge before being held by others there. Police then attended.

Mr Crawford pointed out that Logan’s record comprised mostly road traffic matters at a summary level.

He had been in the care system from a young age, said the solicitor.

Logan had moved in with his grandmother who later passed away in a house fire. He been in the house at the time of the fire which “caused him significant difficulties also.”

Mr Crawfored said Logan had remained free from trouble for a number of years.

He had children from a previous relationship and was taking steps to get contact with them.

Now in a new relationship, his girlfriend was in court and, Mr Crawford added, had provided a testimonial.

Logan, he said, took full responsibility for his behaviour for which he had expressed shame and disgust.

His alcohol consumption had declined and he had also shown victim insight and empathy, said Mr Crawford.

The report touched upon Logan’s disruptive childhood and pointed out “he was the victim just over 10 years ago in an attempted murder matter”.

Mr Crawford said despite leaving school without qualifications Logan was an intelligent and articulate young man and in fulltime employment.

The solicitor recognised that Sheriff William Gilchrist would be looking at a custodial sentence, but insisted that Logan was suitable for a community-based disposal.

Mr Crawford suggested a “high tariff ” community payback order with supervision, unpaid work and compensation.

Sheriff Gilchrist told Logan – taking account it was one single blow – that he would impose an alternative to imprisonment.

He sentenced him to a community payback order comprising 225 hours’ unpaid work to be completed within nine months along with 12 months’ supervision.

Sheriff Gilchrist also ordered Logan to pay Mr Savage £1000 in compensation, payable at a rate of £50 per month.
