Diamond couple mark 60 years of marriage

-

Well-known photographer Alan Whyte was on the other side of the camera recently when he posed for a celebratory snap with his wife Margaret on the occasion of their 60th wedding anniversary.

The Causewayhead couple, both 83, shared their big day on December 6, with their three daughters, seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Alan was part of the successful Whyler Photos partnership with friend Hamish Mailer, taking photographs in and around the Stirling area - in particular with the Stirling Observer for many years.

The Whytes met at a badminton club held in Ladywell Church, Bannockburn where Margaret had moved to as a youngster from Fife.

“We were married at Larbert West Parish Church on December 6, 1958 - that’s where we were living at the time,”said Margaret.

Moving to Stirling, Margaret worked as a medical secretary in the office of Dr Robert McIntyre but became a housewife when she left to have her children Susan, Fiona and Julie.

Their badminton days are well behind them although Margaret said she kept playing into her 40s and these days she enjoys watching tennis and doing crosswords. Alan, meantime, loves his garden and tries tog get out on the golf course when he can.

Two of their three daughters live nearby with the other in Edinburgh.“It’s nice to have the family close and it gives us a chance to see them as often as we want,”added Margaret.
