Student noise problem

-

Dear Editor,

I am emailing you at 4. 22am after yet again being woken up by student noise and behaviour.

I think there needs to be an examination of how many students are living in residential areas such as Riverside.

There are increasing numbers of students living here and in other residential parts of Stirling and they are having a negative effect on those who live in these areas.

Riverside, where I live , is to my mind particularly overrun with students. Some regularly walk home in large groups during the early hours of the morning after a night out in places such as the Fubar.

Their behaviour is frequently appalling as residents are subject to screaming and shouting, fighting and arguing, drinking in the street, chapping peoples doors and pressing the wrong flat buzzers, running around with and throwing rubbish bins and littering the area with their takeaway food boxes and alcohol bottles – all at 3am in the morning almost every night of the week.

Residents sleep is being disturbed on a nightly basis not to mention the unsettling behaviour that is being heard outside our houses which is frightening both the elderly and children.

I hope something can be done about this, as residents phoning 101 is not tackling this issue as the police on most occasions have attended after the students had moved on.

Indeed, tonight when I phoned, the call operator who seemed to think it was funny that those outside were running around with rubbish bins.

This problem will only become more acute when the student flats currently being built in Forthside Way, Riverside, are complete and more students descend on the area.

I am a very tired and frustrated resident of Forth Street, Riverside. Denise Lister, by email
