SPORTS NEWS

Wednesday, January 30 proved to be an extremely busy and successful day for the school’s sporty students. In the morning 14, S2 students and two members of staff were at the Stirling Schools Giant Heptathlon indoor event. All seven Stirling secondary schools were represented in an event where students competed in seven different events, all including the three athletic disciplines of running, jumping and throwing. The Balfron students were led by example by their captains Lara Cameron and Greg Harrower who put in maximum effort in every activity. The relays were the last event with all seven schools competing. The Balfron students kept the pace up through out displaying slick baton change overs and winning both the boys and girls races. The top schools representing Stirling in the regional finals in Dundee on February 26 are winners Balfron High and runners-up Queen Victoria School. Dunblane High finished third. Later in the day 27 girls, many of whom had competed in the morning, took part in a netball festival at Dunblane High School. The girls who made up S1, S2 and S3 teams all played three matches against, Dunblane, Queen Victoria School and themselves. For the host school and QVS, netball is a developing sport and they played some good matches against the Balfron sides who are all in the Scottish Netball Cup competition and play regular fixtures against other schools mainly from the Glasgow area. It was an enjoyable festival where many of the girls got to practise their netball umpiring as well.
