Vue slashes ticket prices after Observer campaign

Seats for £4.99 welcomed following admission outcry

- WARREN HARDIE

Following a campaign by the Stirling Observer, ticket prices at Vue cinema in Stirling have been slashed.

Vue announced last week that tickets for all films at the Forthside cinema will now cost £4.99, more than half the cost of some tickets in 2018.

VIP tickets for all screenings will now cost £6.99, and child tickets will also cost £4.99.

Customers had hit out at the cinema chain last year over their unfair pricing policies.

We launched our Fair Vue campaign in August 2018, in which we called on the cinema to stop charging movie fans more in Stirling than anywhere else in Scotland.

No fewer than 5724 people signed a petition started by the Observer demanding that Vue scrap its pricing policy which disadvantaged Stirling film-goers.

The campaign was launched after two customers attended films in both Stirling and Edinburgh, and found that they had paid an extra £12 for their tickets in Stirling.

MSP for Stirling Bruce Crawford also wrote a letter to the chief executive of Vue, Timothy Richards, last August, calling for a review of ticket prices.

The Observer revealed last year that prices for standard adult tickets were up to £7 more expensive than in Aberdeen, Inverness, Hamilton and Livingston.

Stirling was the most expensive outlet in the country at £12.74 for a standard adult ticket £14.74 for VIP - followed by Glasgow, with prices ranging from £10.79 and £12.29.

Prices in Edinburgh, at the Omni Centre and Ocean Terminal, were third most expensive at £6.74 and £8.74.

Vue sought to justify the disparity in prices, claiming it was part of their ‘dynamic pricing policy’ which allowed outlets to charge different ticket prices from venue to venue. But cinemagoers saw it as a rip-off.

Mr Crawford welcomed the decision to slash prices,

I am pleased to hear that common sense has prevailed and Vue Cinemas have listened to local people
