Film fans’ fury at big screen‘rip off’

-

adding: “Having supported the Stirling Observer’s campaign for Vue to drop their ticket prices, I am pleased that this decision has been taken.

“Stirling’s Vue cinema had been the most expensive in the country for tickets and thousands of people signed an online petition, expressing a clear desire for Vue to introduce fairer ticket prices.

“Increasingly people are turning to online streaming for entertainment, and illegal downloads continues to present a real problem for the film industry.

“It is crucial that cinema chains ensure that they remain competitive in this difficult environment.”

Mid Scotland and Fife MSP Dean Lockhart commented: “I am pleased to hear that common sense has prevailed and Vue Cinemas have listened to local people in lowering their prices.

“The way in which we consume digital media has changed significantly over recent years, with more people using online streaming services to watch movies online.

“However, cinemas continue to play an important role in bringing people together.

“That is why cinemas must do all they can to attract customers, and keeping prices competitive must surely be one way to do this.

He added: “I commend the Stirling Observer in taking the lead on this issue and I hope that more people in Stirling will now benefit from being able to access the full cinema experience at more affordable prices.” Stirling Observer readers expressed their frustrations in August 2018 over the price of tickets.

Kirstie Speed posted on social media:“My sister has just taken seven kids and granny to the Vue. We decided on the Vue rather than Perth cinema due to the Monday supersaver offer. I am disgusted that due to it being a‘bank holiday’they were charged £7.49 for a children’s movie rather than £3.99. We had cost the trip as £35.91 but instead were charged £67.41. I am so disgusted.”

John Martin:“I like going to the cinema because I think the big screen adds something to the movie experience but at those prices the garage conversion with a 150 inch screen and 4K projector is looking like a cost effective option.”

Susan Walmsley added: “I go on Mondays and make use of their’super Mondays’codes for £3.99 a ticket. And I find their ‘snack it’boxes a great deal for the kids, popcorn, juice and a sweet for £3.79 or you get three items of food or drink for a tenner.”

Garry Samson said: “The Vue always has been a complete rip off. An extortionate rate to listen to other people eat food and chat to each other. The Vue’s excuse of ‘dynamic pricing’is the definition of‘we are fleecing you.’”
