Hidden heritage uncovered

-

Friends of Clackmannanshire Heritage are hosting a talk tonight (Wednesday) on the ‘hidden heritage’of Higgins Neuk at Airth .

Ellie Graham, of the charity Scottish Coastal Archaeology and the Problem of Erosion, will discuss an archaeological team’s discovery while searching for the royal dockyards of James IV near Clackmannanshire Bridge.

The Higgins Neuk project was part of the Heritage Lottery-funded Inner Forth Landscape Initiative.

Its main goal was to find evidence of the dockyards, as well as investigate the archaeology of areas of the river bank not affected by land reclamation.

The project also aimed to engage the community in acknowledging the heritage of the complex, multi-layered landscape.

Ms Graham studied Egyptology and ancient history at the University of Wales, followed by a postgraduate course in practical archaeology at Birmingham University.

She currently works as a research assistant for SCAPE, based at the University of St Andrews.

The talk will start at 7.30pm and is being held at St Mungo’s RC Church Hall in Alloa.

There will be refreshments provided as well as a raffle. Non-members welcome, though the group asks for a small donation.
