The Grand Boys promise punters a ‘good hoolie’

-

Stirling’s St Patrick’s Day celebrations will have others green with envy next month thanks to The Grand Boys.

The charity band and friends will be be in concert at the Albert Halls on Saturday, March 16 with great music, dancing and craic from traditional Irish folk and country to classic rock and ceilidh.

There will also be world class Irish dancing from Kidd-Cieslak School of Irish Dancing, a buffet and the usual Paddy’s Day fun.

There will be a raffle and every penny raised on the night will help a host of great causes. Among the charities to receive donations from the band previously have been Macmillan Cancer Care, CHAS and Strathcarron Hospice.

Grand Boys founder John Griffin said: “It will be a night with a bit of nostalgia, a right good hoolie and some great entertainment.”

The Grand Boys were started by John back in 1990 with the sole purpose of raising £1000 (hence the name - The Grand Boys) for PKU Research at then Royal Hospital For Sick Children at Yorkhill.

John’s son Sean had been born with a rare genetic disorder which had it not been caught at birth would have given rise to potentially serious issues later in life.

Fortunately it was caught and Sean is now a healthy young man with a law degree and - a real talent for music himself.

Since then, however, The Grand Boys has raised almost half a million pounds for worthy causes and performed all over Scotland, some cities in England and even played gigs in Italy.

The band also has a charity furniture recycling shop in Bannockburn and in 2004 became world record holders for the longest concert by playing continuously for nearly 43 hours, earning them a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records.

There are a handful of tickets left, price £15 including buffet (limited concessions for under 16s).

Contact the band on Facebook or call 07734 238603 or 07540 297796 for inquiries about tickets and the concert.
