Women’s voices heard in stories and in drawings
Celebrate International Women’s Day (IWD) with an evening of storytelling and live visual drawing in Twa on Friday, March 8, 7.30pm, followed by a post-show discussion on the IWD theme – better the balance, better the world.
Hidden and unspoken truths come to light in Twa, through stories of women who have been silenced or censored.
The talents of award-winning writer Annie George and visual artist Flore Gardner complement each other, as Flore uses her drawing skills to respond to Annie’s storytelling live on stage.
Annie George is a writer, director, producer, performer and an occasional filmmaker based in Edinburgh.
She was recently awarded the 2019 Ignite Fellowship by the Scottish Book Trust and the Inspiring Scotland Bursary by the Saltire Society and the Scottish Book Trust in 2016.
Creating an entirely new piece in front of your eyes, Annie reveals the truths about women who have been silenced and censored.
Flore Gardner is an artist working between Scotland and France who explores cultures, languages, and different ways of seeing and thinking.
Flore explores two complimentary forms of art including hundreds of small drawings on paper and largescale ‘alternative’ drawings which, slowly but surely, resist the everyday through a creative act. She will interpret Annie’s story live on stage through digital and live performance drawing.
Lyndsey Cole will join Annie and Flore for the post-show discussion around International Women’s Day and how we can ‘Balance for Better’ in 2019.
Lyndsey is an adventurer and storyteller who has swam the River Thames as a mermaid, cycled the length of Africa to watch the World Cup and retraced an incredible journey along Australia’s Rabbit
Proof Fence. She prides herself in being a big fan of spinning a negative situation into something positive and looking after the planet.
