Work begins on new rural homes for rent
Work on a £1 million affordable housing development is underway in Doune.
The properties are the latest in a programme of new-build social rented properties being undertaken by Rural Stirling Housing Association.
The six homes - comprising two semidetached bungalows and four cottage flats - are being built by Hadden Group in Balkerach Street and will be available for rent once completed.
The total cost of the development is £994,198 with £663,000 from a Scottish Government grant, £288,000 from Housing Association private finance and a £43,198 contribution from the NHS for the shared access road infrastructure.
Performing the ground-breaking ceremony, Stirling Council housing portfolio holder Evelyn Tweed said: “This is a small but significant contribution to the council’s target to build 700 houses over the administration’s five-year term.
“The council is working hard with Rural Stirling Housing Association and other housing providers to bring more developments to fruition and to meet the Scottish Government’s ambitious target of building 50,000 new affordable homes in Scotland by 2021.”
Association chairperson Margaret Vass welcomed the commencement of works saying: “These new homes for rent will be a welcome and much-needed addition to the village of Doune and helps us to continue to fulfil our objective of providing quality affordable housing for our rural communities.”
The development is being undertaken in partnership with NHS Forth Valley which
