Man caught with machete

A Stirling man was caught carrying a machete in a city chip shop.

Rory Fisher, of Edward Avenue, this week admitted a charge of having the article at The Golden Bird Chip Shop in Cowane Street on August 16 last year.

The 32-year-old also pleaded guilty to charges of possessing heroin in Lower Castlehill on November 16 last year while on bail on another matter – and a charge of breaching a bail condition by being outside his home during a 7pm to 7am curfew. Fisher had been in Lower Castlehill on August 17 at approximat­ely 10.50pm. His not guilty pleas to charges of assaulting three police officers by struggling violently with them in Cowane Street on August 16 and kicking out with his legs; possessing the class-C drug Etizolam at Falkirk Police Office, and possessing cannabis resin at Lower Castlehill were all accepted by the Crown.

Fisher however also pleaded not guilty to a charge of assaulting Damien Campbell to his injury and attempting to rob him of his belongings while on bail on another matter at an address in Lower Castlehill on August 16 last year. He is alleged to have repeatedly punched Mr Campbell, kicked him on the head and body and demanded property from him.

In a separate summary complaint Fisher had pleaded guilty to charges of possessing heroin and cannabis resin at an address in Tannery Lane on October 25 last year, both while on bail on another matter.

At Stirling Sheriff Court yesterday, Sheriff Wyllie Robertson set the trial on the charge of assault and attempted robbery for April 1.

He also deferred sentence on the summary charges until that date.
