Snowy Sunday brings tricky road conditions

-

Stirling saw further snowfall over the weekend with rural areas hit particularly hard.

In Stirling residents woke to snowfall on Sunday morning, accompanied by hail and sleet later in the day,

Fortunately for those residing in the city, the snow didn’t last and had largely melted by the afternoon.

Further north, routes through Callander, Tyndrum and Crianlarich proved trickier for motorists.

A crash saw the closure of the A82 north of Tyndrum, near Crianlarich. Police warned of adverse weather conditions in the area.

Scott McLean, from Stirling Weather, an amateur weather station based in King’s Park, said:“The snow over the weekend was nothing unusual for March, there is usually a few periods of short lived wintry weather for the Stirling area during March, a slight bonus to the snow on Sunday was that it happened early on a Sunday morning and not during a weekday rush hour morning.

“Looking ahead to the coming week it will be a mixed week with some sunny intervals but it will be unsettled at times with spells of heavy rain and blustery winds.”

The Met Office issued a yellow warning for wind, which was in effect from noon yesterday (Tuesday) until 3pm today (Wednesday). Forecasters have warned residents to expect some bus and train services affected, with some journeys taking longer and the potential for short term loss of power as Storm Gareth batters the country.
