13 reasons to see Monument show

-

Stirling’s talented Monument Performing Arts School (MPAS) is next weekend staging the hit Broadway show that launched Ariana Grande to stardom.

13 is a hilarious coming-of-age teen musical and the story is one all teenagers will relate to – trying to be popular while making the difficult move from being a youth to being an grown-up.

In the show, Evan Goldman is about to turn 13, and he can’t wait. Everything is ahead of him and his life seems full of possibilities...until his parents get divorced and he’s forced to move with his mum from big-city New York to small-town Appleton in Indiana.

He desperately wants to be cool and fit in with the new kids but navigating the social circles of his new school is incredibly hard. And he worries - if he can’t survive the school year, how can he survive the rest of his life?

MPAS founder and director Craig Murray, responsible for previous hit shows such as Godspell, You’re A Good Man Charlie Brown and Spelling Bee, said: “13 is a hidden treasure, a terrific coming-of-age story about fitting in, first kisses and heartbreak, and the hardships of leaving familiar places for unfamiliar ones.

“The 13 cast are all incredibly talented teenagers from the Stirling area who sing and dance brilliantly and the rock music is bright, catchy and toe-tappingly infectious.

“With its equal doses of humour and pathos, I know 13 will be irresistible to grown ups...and almost grown-ups!”

The show has three performances in the Tolbooth on Friday, March 22 at 7.30pm and on Saturday, March 23 at 2.30pm and 7.30pm. Tickets - £13.50 and £11 (cons) - are available at the Tolbooth box office on 01786 274000.
