LET’S BATTLE TO THE END

Rutkiewicz asks his players for big finish

- DAVID OGILVIE

Stirling Albion are looking to beat Berwick Rangers for the third time this season when the sides meet at Forthbank on Saturday.

The Borderers went into last night’s rearranged game at home to leaders Peterhead without a win since November and only two points above bottom club Albion Rovers.

The Binos lost 3-1 to Clyde at Broadwood on Saturday and have now lost five of their last six matches but have won both games against Berwick since Kevin Rutkiewicz took over.

The boss said: “We played well in spells against Clyde but we lost avoidable goals.

“We don’t lack effort – I believe they all give everything they have got but what we do maybe lack is decision making and identifying in games when and where to inject or take away tempo and slow the game down.

“We were in control until we scored and maybe after that we got carried away with a wave of excitement and got a wee bit gung-ho. Clyde have got clever players and were putting the ball into wee pockets and were getting in behind us quite a lot.”

Rutkiewicz has called on his players to show what they are capable of in the coming weeks and end the 2018/19 campaign on a high.

He added: “The end of the season is approaching and the boys have got to have a wee bit of personal pride. Every game they must show theyu are good enough to be a professional football player.”

Skipper Ross McGeachie saw his run of 83 consecutive appearances, stretching back two years, come to an end at the weekend because of an injury.

Rutkiewicz, who will welcome back striker Darren Smith after a two-match ban, said: “Ross has picked up a knock. He could be out for another week or two and we just need to see how it goes.

“He has been a model of consistency – he’s not had many bad games since we game in.”
