Determined Sarah is a sports champ
A Riverside Primary School pupil has been recognised for overcoming her disabilities to excel in sports.
P7 pupil Sarah Rehman was presented with the school’s Williamson Trophy for Outstanding Sporting Achievement at last Friday’s graduation ceremony in recognition of her hard work in disability sports.
The 11-year-old has won medals at various club competitions including representing Forth Valley Flyers disability sports club in athletics and also in Inclusive Skating ice skating events.
On Saturday she also attended the Scottish Disability Athletics Red Star club championships in Glasgow winning gold medals in her three events, smashing her previous personal best times in her 60m and 100m race running events.
Dad Fayzan said: “Due to her learning difficulties and physical ability impairments, Sarah requires a high level of additional support at school.
“All the staff have gone above and beyond what could be expected of them. Without their dedication and commitment, Sarah would not have been able to be included in a mainstream class. The school really exemplifies the best in Scottish society, as the children really embody its ethos of kindness and respect for each other.
“I wish to thank all the staff, children and parents, who have consistently shown Sarah real kindness, empathy and understanding throughout her time at Riverside Primary School. It really demonstrates society at its best, as to how the most vulnerable are cared for. I’m sure that all the other parents of P7 children will join me in thanking the school for inspiring and nurturing our children during the past seven years.
“Last Friday’s P7 graduation ceremony was a wonderful and emotional celebration of the children’s lives and development through their primary school years.Their year has been culminating with some momentous occasions, such as their amazing Cats and Dogs school play.”
