Trophy hopes disappear with Glasgow West defeat

- BOWLS BY JOHN MILLER

Stirling County West’s disappointing Hamilton Trophy season continued on Saturday with yet another defeat – their fourth in six outings.

On an immaculate Kingswood green, a reshuffled West team, due to enforced changes, failed to impress and lost by 17 shots to titlechasing Glasgow West.

Trailing for most of the encounter and 30 shots adrift around the 15-end mark, County staged a late rally to get to within 10 shots before a relieved Glasgow squad clinched victory.

Only one County rink finished ahead - that comprising Donald Dalgleish, Alastair MacFarlane, Sandy Deans and David Ferguson who won 20-17 against Scott McWilliams.

Harvey Robertson, Willie Black, George Young and Jason Williams lost 22-11 to Greame McDougal, while Manny Cruz, David Ferguson sen., Bryan Stillie and David Crombie went down 18-16 to Colin McLeod.

Also missing out were Calum Musik, James Brown, Aaron Furzer and Gary Malcolmson who were 19-14 losers to Jim McCartney, while David Stewart, Stuart Bell, Billy Guy and Dougie Kerr lost 22-14 to Steven Wilson.

Completing the losing line up were Adam Cockburn, Kenny Murdoch, James Stanfield and Neil Solomon going down 21-17 to David Elliot. Totals: Stirling County West 102-119 Glasgow West.

In their final outing on Saturday, County West play Renfrewshire West at the Doune Castle green.
