MP says congrats as home scoops gold and silver awards

-

Abbeyfield Home in Stirling has received plaudits after winning two top honours.

The retirement home won gold at the 2019 housing for older people awards, in the category of care homes for under 25 tenants.

Cook Donna Harvey also won the 2019 `hero’accolade, one of only nine given out across the UK.

Donna was praised for the variety of her meals and high standards as well as her good humour.

The awards are run by the Elderly Accommodation Council and held every two years.

Abbeyfield received its gold award in the regional category and went into the national finals, winning silver.

Stirling MP Stephen Kerr visited the home to congratulate staff and meet residents.

He also discussed with them issues important to them, such as the recently passed but controversial Viewforth Link Road and the BBC’s decision to withdraw free TV licences for over75s.

Under house manager Vikki Ferguson said:“We were over the moon with these awards. Abbeyfield is like a family and the residents need it to be their home. The residents and the committee enjoyed Stephen’s visit and he was available to answer lots of questions.

Mr Kerr said:“Abbeyfield retirement home has shown it leads the way in care for older people, and it was wonderful to meet the dedicated team that provide such high quality and caring support for the residents. I had a very enjoyable visit. Meeting some of the residents as well provided us the opportunity to discuss a number of issues of interest at present.”
