The island, the bridge and the big tree were the favoured spots and many anglers were reporting seeing fish following flies and turning away, or were getting plenty of offers but not so many takes.

The Millpond continues to fish well for both bait and fly anglers with a good variety of different coloured trout coming off. Favourite flies this week included Dancer, Damsel, Black Fritz, Diawl Bach, Kate McLaren, Sedge, and Buzzer while on the bait pond, maggots and green power bait were the most successful.

Best bags included: Stuart Wallace (Alloa) in two visits, five for 11lb 2oz from the Millpond including a Gold; Robbie McGuire and Lino (Stirling) three for 7lb from the small ponds including two Golds plus one released; Mike Chubb 4lb 8oz Rainbow; Les Cooper (Dunblane) 4lb 8oz Rainbow; Andy Duffin (Cowie) 2lb Gold from the Millpond plus four released; Ross Gracie four caught and released; Ross Cochrane four caught and released including a Blue.

GLENBERVIE

Tropical conditions through the week - sunny, clammy and dry. Fish seems to be more active at evening sessions when is cloudy and cooler. You see them then feeding on the top: mostly on wee beetles. Through the day the best option is intermediate line with any heavy wee lure.

This week on fly: Alan McGregor 11; David Ford seven; R Rennie landed six; Andy McAulay, Geordie Penn, David Blair and Graham North, all five; Stephen Gunn, John Patrick, Ally Bruce,

Bob Nicholls and Bob Wright all had four and R Thomson caught three,

Most successful patterns were Beetles, Mini Dancer, Diawl Bach, Yellow Owl and various Buzzers. On bait: K Craig had four, Robert Hoon, A Donaldson, G Robertson and Brandon Calder all three.

LAKE OF MENTEITH

The warm weather has sent the fish - not necessarily the pike - deep so pack fast sinkers. Best areas of recent have been the Malling shore, The Gap and especially Gateside Bay.

At these temperatures the fisheries have an advisory note to limit catch and release in the interests of fish welfare. This week’s Scotland v English Select match will be fished to 10 fish catch and release and record the time of your last fish caught. Temperatures are thankfully forecast to drop over the next few days.
