Stirling couple play part in Motorsport Museum’s history as 10,000th visitors

-

A Stirling couple last Friday became the 10,000th visitors to the Jim Clark Motorsport Museum in the Borders town of Duns.

Moira, 60, and Colin McNicol, 61, visited the museum following the recommendation of a friend.

Both shared their memories of the fatal crash which killed Scottish motor racing ace Jim Clark in 1968.

Colin had been in Germany at the time with his family, and Moira remembered coming home to her sister in tears at the news.

The couple were presented with a host of Jim Clark merchandise, including a print of Mr Clark competing in the 1965 Belgian Grand Prix, and also had the chance to meet his cousin Doug Niven.

Run by charity Live Borders, the museum provides an interactive experience of the life of Scotland’s first Formula One world champion.

Designed by Scottish Borders Council architects, it was developed in partnership with Live Borders and the Jim ClarkTrust.

The museum includes two of Mr Clark’s race cars, galleries, film footage, interactive displays and a simulator.

An exhibition of memoriabilia and his trophy collection is also on display.

Curator Shona Sinclair, said: “I am so proud of the team and proud to have worked on this project: it’s an amazing accomplishment for us to welcome our 10,000th visitors three months after opening.

“Huge thanks to Moira and Colin for being an important part of our history. We look forward to celebrating more milestones as we look ahead to the new season.”
