Caley Marts sold 188 cattle comprising of 82 prime bullocks, heifers and young bulls as well as 106 OTM cattle.

Prime heifers reached 235p pkg for a Limousin from DS and RC Taylor, Easter Ochtermuth­ill, Muthill purchased by HA Black and Sons, Butcher, Stirling and to £1505 for a Limousin from D Dickinson, Brockwoodl­ees, Canonbie, also purchased by HA Black and Sons.

Prime bullocks topped at 228p pkg for a Limousin from W Dandie and Son, Learielaw, Broxburn purchased by T Johnston, Butcher, Falkirk and to £1395 for a Limousin from J and J Wylie, Knockhouse, Crossford, also purchased by T Johnston.

Fleshed OTM cattle averaged 136p pkg selling to 164p for a Limousin from M Jack, Carriston, Star of Markinch and to £1290 for a Limousin from A Morton, Lochend, Denny.

With many feeding cows forward, the average levelled out at 113p pkg. Dairy cows averaged 84p pkg selling to 103p from H Harper, Kaimhill, Bridge of Weir and to £770 from D Morton, Hayston, Kirkintill­och.

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 11

Caley Marts had forward 164 beef breeding cattle which included a section for heifer calves with future breeding potential.

The judge for the show of heifers with calves at foot was in the able hands of Mr Bradley Robertson, Roebank, Keith and the show was kindly sponsored by The Scottish Farmer.

Champion heifer with a bullock calf at foot was from John McAllister, West Thomaston, Banknock which later sold for £4000. Reserve heifer with calf at foot came from Craig and Katreen Malone, Pitcairn, Cardenden realising £3300.

Caley Marts also sold 2058 breeding sheep. Breeding tups (238) sold to a top of £550 for a Texel Shearling from JW Gibb and Son, Rusha Farm, West Calder. Breeding ewes (1054) sold to a top of £110 for a pen of one crop Ewes from G Reid, Duncairnie, Mains of Duncrub. Gimmers (616) sold to a top of £240 for a pen of four Texels from D and J McKerrow, Nochnary, Freuchie and 150 ewe lambs sold to a top of £85 for a pair of Suffolks from G Russell, Leslie Park.

Caley Marts had forward 562 store cattle and suckled calves, and 1525 store and feeding sheep at their fortnightl­y sale.

Bullocks topped at 321p for a Limousin from Airth Farms, Airth and to £1070 for Limousins on two occasions from A Taylor and Son, Wester Carmuirs, Larbert.

Heifers sold to 213p for a Limousin from D Walker and Sons, Camreggan, Girvan and to £1040 for a Simmental from J and J Kay, Castlehill, Port Glasgow.

Black and Whites sold to 173p from I McMaster, Knocknain, Wigtonshir­e and to £790 for the same beast.

Also forward were 1525 store lambs and feeding ewes. All classes sharper on the week, and more could have been sold to sellers’ advantage. Feeding ewes again dearer on the week.

Top price of the day went to D Nicol, Auchtenny, Forgandenn­y and R Sibbald, Thorn, Dollar for Texel X Lambs at £67. Feeding ewes sold to £55.50 for a pen of Texels from R Gray, Craigmad, Falkirk.

Caley Marts Ltd sold 2014 prime lambs, ewes and tups. All classes of lambs a better trade than anticipate­d with many lambs similar trade to last week. Overall sale average was 161.6ppkg (-2.7p on the week) selling to a top of 205.4p pkg for a pen of 44.3kg Beltex Lambs and to a top of £98 from Doune Farms, West Lundie for a cracking 55kg Beltex Lamb.
