A9 delays during repairs on bridges

-

Speed restrictions and lane closures will be in place on the A9 near Dunblane in the coming months as maintenance work takes place on two rail bridges.

The £530,000 project will involve repainting the steel beams of the Auchinlay and Allan Water bridges with a protective coating aimed at protecting the steelwork from corrosion for over 20 years.

The A9 will remain open throughout the project but a 50mph speed limit will be in place.

Some off-peak single lane closures will also be enforced to allow for the safe delivery of materials and parapet repair works. All traffic management will be removed over the festive period to help minimise disruption during the holidays.

BEAR Scotland’s North East Representative Andy Thompson said:“We’ve planned the project to have minimum disruption to road and rail users, however the traffic management arrangements in place are to ensure the safety of the workforce and road users as well as the railway below.

“Although some minor delays are anticipated our teams will do all they can to carry out the project as quickly and safely as possible. We advise road users to abide by all traffic or speed restrictions put in place during the work for their safety.”

Scaffolding will be installed around the bridges and beneath the decks. Repairs to the bridge parapets will also be carried out as will work to improve access to the bridge for engineering teams.

Work began this week with the project expected to be completed by mid-February next year.

The maintenance project follows on from improvements made to the two bridges earlier this year which involved replacement of the bridge joints on both the southbound and northbound carriageway.
