Talk on Stirling Bridge plans

-

People are being invited to learn more about plans for Stirling Bridge at an event hosted by Stirling Civic Trust next week.

Robin Iffla, chair of the Guardians of Scotland Trust, will be the guest speaker at the first of three winter talks organised by the CivicTrust.

The talk, which is free to Civic Trust members and £5 for members of the public, will take place in the Smith Art Gallery and Museum on Tuesday, November 5, at 7.30pm.

Information will be given on the proposals for lighting at the bridge along with a new memorial.

Guardians of Scotland Trust was registered as a charity in 2013 to advance public education about the co-commanders of the Battle of Stirling Bridge, Andrew de Moray and William Wallace, and to create a memorial in their honour.

International artist Malcolm Robertson was awarded the design commission for a new memorial in 2016. Standing up to 33 feet tall, the £150,000 statue is expected to be located on the north bank of the River Forth at Stirling.

The Guardians of Scotland Trust is also working alongside Stirling-based electrical group FES and other heritage partners to enhance the lighting on Stirling Bridge. This is currently going through the planning process and, if approved, will form part of a‘heritage lighting trail’from Stirling Castle to the Wallace Monument. It is hoped the new lighting will be launched by early 2020.

The ambitious plans, however, rely on public and private support.
