CONCERT

Next in the series of concerts at St Mary’s is on Sunday, November 17 at 3pm. Pistons and Pipes with a Soprano and Drums features Sally Carr (soprano), Calum Robertson (organ and clarinet), Christophe­r Roberts (trumpet) and Thomas Lowe (baroque drums). They will be playing an interestin­g and varied programme including music by Boyce, Handel and Burgon. Retiral collection.

PARISH CHURCH

Service on Sunday will be at the usual time of 11.15am with worship being conducted by the Rev Dr Valerie Allen. The following Sunday is Remembranc­e Sunday with an Act of Remembranc­e at the War Memorial starting at 10.50am, followed by the usual service in the church at approximat­ely 11.15am. These Acts of Worship will held jointly with St Mary’s Episcopal Church.

CHRISTMAS FAYRE

West Stirlingsh­ire Friends of Strathcarr­on Hospice are holding their annual Christmas Fayre on Saturday, November 9 from 10am-2.30pm in the McLintock Hall. All welcome to support this worthwhile cause and enjoy stalls, raffle, tombola. Tea/coffee are included in the adult £3 admission.

Anyone wishing to fill Christmas shoeboxes for the Blythswood Care Appeal may pick up forms from Buchlyvie Church, Pottery or Costcutter­s. Completed boxes may be taken to the church or to Margaret Sparkes, Culbowie Crescent. The deadline is November 10.

CHRISTMAS TREE FESTIVAL

There will be a meeting in the Church Session Room on Monday, November 4 at 7pm to discuss proposed the Christmas

Tree Festival to be held in the church in December. All organisati­ons and individual­s who could help in any way decorating trees, preparing food and serving it, or in acting as stewards or in any other way are invited to attend this meeting. For more informatio­n contact Frances Scott.

The meeting scheduled for Monday, November 4 has been postponed until Monday, November 11 at the same time. This in deference to the funeral of Niven McLaren which takes place on November 4.

HALLOWEEN PARTY

Buchlyvie Children and Old Folks Committee held the annual party on Saturday, October 26 with an attendance of around 40 children. There were many varied fancy dress costumes and the judges - Mrs Frances Scott and Rev Scott Brown - had the difficult task of picking winners in each category. After the judging there were several Halloween themed games with a break for the traditiona­l ice cream and jelly and at the end of the party “dooking for apples”. Fancy dress results were: Pre school to P3 Girls - Funniest - Hatty Cochrane (Zombie Prom Queen); Most OriginalSo­phia Wallace (Smarty Pants); Most Topical - Alyssa Montague (Elsa from Frozen). Pre school to P3 Boys - Funniest - Cameron Montague (Lego Ninja); Most Original - Austin Mitchell (Milky Bar Kid); Most Topical - Cyrus Haighton-Kerr (The Bat). P4 Upwards Girls - Funniest - Lily Irving (Genie); Most Original - Kayleigh Sutherland (Tin Man); Most Topical - Amy Newhouse (The Enchanted Witch). P4 Upwards Boys - Funniest - Harry Holmes (The Ninja); Most Original - Lewis McNee (Grim Reaper); Most Topical - George Thomson (Scottish Rugby Hopes).

CALLANDER KIRK

Early worship on Sunday is at 10am in the kirk hall and Communion service is at 11.15am in the kirk. Trossachs Kirk Communion Service is at 3pm and Time for Silence is at 7pm in the kirk. The Thursday Club for senior citizens meets in Callander Kirk Hall Library every second Thursday. Next meeting is on November 7 from 2-4pm. There are table games, tea and usually an entertainm­ent of sort. New members welcome. The Guild Project Morning is being held in the Teapot Cafe on Wednesday, November 6 from10.30am until noon in the Yvonne Fuller Library. All welcome.

CONCERT

Callander Kirk presents the Forth Valley Doctors’ Choir in concert with Callander Brass at 7.30pm on Thursday, November 7. Callander Brass Training Band will also perform a couple of numbers. Admission £5, school age children free. All proceeds to Strathcarr­on Hospice. Refreshmen­ts will be provided after the concert.
