Castle breached by Finnart comeback

-

DOUNE CASTLE ................................. 2 FINNART .............................................. 3

Doune Castle squandered an early two-goal lead as a good Finnart side battled back to snatch all three points and inflict the home side’s first Caledonian League defeat of the season.

After a dominant opening spell, Doune scored twice in the opening 10 minutes.

Firstly Lukasz Duszynski threaded a perfectly weighted pass to Sean Wilbert for him to power a shot across the keeper into the far corner.

Then Alan Inglis hooked an overhead angled pass to Duszynski who rode a hefty challenge, drew the keeper and slipped an angled shot into the net.

In the next 10 minutes, Doune missed several chances to extend their lead and it was to their cost when Finnart pulled it back to 2-1 in 21 minutes. An attempted clearance broke kindly to a visiting Finnart player who curled a shot from 12 yards through a melee of players and into the net.

After 32 minutes, Wilbert seemed certain to restore Doune’s two-goal advantage but the keeper flashed out an arm to deflect his net-bound drive off the crossbar and over.

Two minutes later, Duszynski found Inglis at the near post with a corner from the left but his header slipped wide with the keeper beaten.

Finnart equalised after 35 minutes with a goal of the highest quality. An attacker met an angled cross on the run 16 yards out and planted a perfectly-placed header across Callum Davison into the far corner.

The winner came after 65 minutes. The ball fell kindly to the Finnart striker whose quickness of feet allowed him to turn and place a precise shot into the net from 10 yards for 3-2.

The closest the home side came to an equaliser came deep into added time as Jonny Coubrough manoeuvred an ambitious overhead kick from eight yards. His effort flashed inches past the post to nestle into the side net.
