Special Remembrance service on Dumyat

-

Stirling and surrounding area will remember the fallen on Sunday, November 10, as the UK marks Remembrance Day.

In the city a service will be held at the Church of the Holy Rude at 10.45am to pay respect to members of the armed forces who lost their lives in the service of their country.

Following the service, there will be a parade from the church to the Cenotaph on Corn Exchange Road where the laying of wreaths will take place.

One special service will be held on top of Dumyat in the Ochil Hills where a cap badge memorial sits as a mark of respect to the Argylls. Lots of ex military and family will be on the hill to remember those who served Queen and country.

The 300 kg steel monument was made by David Gray, replacing a concrete one created by his father

Major David Gray MBE in 1967. The steel replacement has been in place since 2014.

Major Gray made the original when the Argylls faced disbandment as part of a general downsizing of the army. A “Save the Argylls”campaign involving the petitioning of Parliament resulted in a compromise under which a single regular company retained the title and colours of the regiment.

“Balaclava Company”continued as an independent unit from January 20, 1971 until the regiment was restored to full battalion size on January 17 1972. It was an infantry regiment of the British Army until amalgamation into The Royal Regiment of Scotland in 2006.

Road closures will be in place across the Stirling area as communities hold their own services. For full road closure information, visit my.stirling.gov.uk/ roads-transport-streets/ planned-road-closures
