A91 safety cash is given to Blairlogie

Village allocated unspent funds

Residents of Blairlogie are being told £120,000 is available to spend on measures to reduce the speed limit through the village - if they want it.

Stirling Council’s finance committee agreed on Thursday to allow some unspent cash from this year’s capital budget to be set aside for the project on the A91.

SNP councillor Jim Thomson found support for his amendment which meant the funding was found now, instead of officers’ recommendation that the money be found through the council’s budget setting process for next year.

Members were advised that, as long as the £120,000 came from within this year’s underspend the committee could approve it without full council consent.

Officials said: “The community of Blairlogie put a lot of work into the issue of speeding and (a petition on the matter). Officers have been working with the community to look at solutions.

“The only way the council can create a 30mph zone is through this plan which would cost up to £120,000.

“Obviously there are differing views of the best way forward – the status quo or this option – but before we progress any further we wanted to secure the £120,000. We would report back to the environment and housing committee in February to have the final say in terms of the approach.”

Councillor Thomson said: “In June Blairlogie Community Council put forward an excellent case and the environment and housing committee took the view it would be best to start this work as soon as possible.

“This work may never happen as once it goes to consultation they may decide to leave it as it is but we wanted to make sure the money was there ready to go if the option was chosen.”

Officials said if work went ahead it could still be some months before it started as, following

I completely agree with this project because it’s a very dangerous piece of road
