Rampant Rovers dominate from start to finish with bumper goal haul

-

CAMBUSBARRON ROVERS .............................. 8 WEIR RECREATION ............................................. 1 Rovers remain eleven points clear in the Caledonian League Division One following an emphatic home win against Weir Recreation.

After a cagey opening ten minutes the floodgates opened as Rovers ran rampant. Three goals in four minutes for the home side set them on their way to victory.

The first came from a corner which broke to Billy Brotton and he scored with a fine left foot shot into the goal.

In the 14th minute a free kick by Owen Smith saw both Chris Hendry and Gianni De Luca free in the box but it was Rovers top scorer Hendry who fired home.

Two minutes later De Luca crossed from the right to the back post and Declan Valentine scored with a diving header into the far corner.

De Luca got on the end of another Smith free kick and his header forced a good save out of the visiting keeper.

An excellent move and good inter play saw a Callum McLaren shot fly over the bar but another goal duly arrived in the 32nd minute when Louis McPherson played to Hendry and his excellent lay off to De Luca allowed him to curl a shot into the top of the net.

The lead was further increased minutes later when McLaren scored again.

There was no let up after the break and early on Sandro De Luca made it six with a fine finish.

There was a great individual goal for right-back McPherson as he ran through the Weirs defence and stroked the ball home in the 58th minute after ghosting past at least six players.

The fresh legs of substitute Anton Sweeney added the pressure on a stretched visiting defence.

Rovers should have scored from a few crosses he played in but it was Weir Rec who had the next chance and they got on the scoreboard after a fine move saw their centre on the ball and he shot low past Gray in the Rovers goal with five minutes remaining.

The Rovers though had the final say when McLaren shot from outside the box and it flew into the net to complete the scoring.
